Biography
Hailing from Paris, François X, has forged his position as fierce DJ and producer, as one of France’s finest exports in the world of techno.
Gaining attention in mid 2000s as a frenetic techno kid with debut releases on Dj Deep imprint deeply rooted and numerous appearances at local clubs, his career really “kickstarted” in 2012 with his Concrete residency where he shaped many sonically adventurous stories and led him to be a regular at notable institutions from notable festivals ( Exit Festival, Melt Festival, Audioriver, Nuits Sonores) to play closing sets at Berghain.
François’ love for the club has brought with it a reputation as a vibrant artist behind the turntables. Channeling obscure, forgotten and timeless techno gems, his fantasy sets capture themes of passion and utopia through a myriad of frenzied sounds from the 90’s acid to fast forward thinking techno.
It was in the record stores that he met French electronic music pioneer Dj Deep and quickly convinced him to release a total of three releases for the seminal Parisian imprint. The final EP featured a remix by Marcel Dettmann, who would later invite François to appear on his own label Marcel Dettmann Records.
Before long, François launched his own imprint DEMENT3D in 2011, a vivid record label noted by Resident Advisor as a key cog in the French music renaissance. It has been the home of his last five releases and his debut album ‘Irregular Passion’, hailed by Groove Magazine in their top debut LPs of 2018, providing the prime example of François X’s ability to merge sensual and rich textures amongst darker elements through electronica off-kilter techno adventures. In 2019 François X has released to critical acclaim his projects Murky dreams and Irregular Passion Reshaped, a complete relecture of his album, favoring an emotional and sensual sensitivity which is at the heart of his musical production.
2021 marks the birth of his new label “XX LAB”, a platform for independent minded artists with an avant-garde electronic music aesthetic. The label derives its direct inspiration from the philosophical concept of private corporations, traditionally portrayed in modern science fiction culture.
Faithfully following the label aesthetic, François X released in 2022 the EP “Digital Fever” his first solo material since 2019, where key themes of loneliness and self-identity reveal the project’s aesthetic. Shifting from academic techno structures to more brutal and edgy aesthetic, there is a profound sense of creative freedom in François’s organic evolution.
Challenging his role as a modern artist and the limit of his fierce dedication, François X is acting as a contemporary cow-boy, deeply entwined with his utopian dreams.
